Personal and Professional Development

Personal and professional development is an area in which everyone needs to improve.  The most successful people continually strive to improve themselves.  Personal and professional development carries over in each aspect of your life.  There are personal skills that you may learn that will help you in professional situations.  Likewise, there are professional skills that will help you in personal situations.  Anyone who is career minded and wants to advance in their chosen field or change the field in which they are in should look carefully into personal and professional development to see how this could assist them in accomplishing their goals.

Personal and professional development starts with identifying the areas in which you want to excel but currently are not.  Take a long look at where you are now and where you want to be.  This is the first step in personal and professional development.  Then, discuss your goals with your employer.  This is a great way to get feedback on areas of your career.  It accomplishes to goals.  First, it puts your employer on notice that you have goals and ambitions and that you are ready and willing to make changes to accomplish those goals.  It also allows you the opportunity to get valuable feedback and possible assistance from your employer.  Perhaps there are classes your boss can recommend and ways that you can improve.  This insight can be invaluable to your personal and professional development.

Find ways to accomplish your personal and professional development.  This is a great time to look into classes that will help you advance in your career.  Management courses, motivational classes and practical advancement classes will all help you in your professional career and you will also learn valuable tools that will transcend your professional life and help you with your personal life as well.  Personal and professional development is a continuing process.  Regularly evaluate where you are and where you want to be and make an effort to get there by setting short term goals.

Parenting classes are a great way to assist in your personal development.  However, they also teach certain skills such as anger management, negotiation and patience that will help in your professional life, especially in a managerial or supervisory position.  Do not discount the benefits of personal experience that can be translated into the professional world.  Often the skills learned in personal life will help you greatly in your professional.  Personal and professional development goes hand in hand.  It is rare to find someone who has it all together in their home life but is a mess in their professional life or vice versa.  Most people have specific areas that need improvement and you can see the affects of these deficiencies in both areas of their life.

Seeing personal and professional development in your life will also instill a sense of self worth and higher self esteem.  It will give you the confidence that you need to be able to ask for that raise or submit your application for a better job.  You will begin to see your life improving professionally, which will often lead to a more stable and worthwhile home life.  People who have a chaotic personal life will often be distracted and edgy at work.  Personal and professional development definitely is related and one area influences the other quite often.

4 Powerful Ways To Fire Up Your Motivation

At times we all find it so difficult to go on when everything seems to fail, isn't it? Are there times in your life when you really want to call it "quits" because you just can't see any good results from all the hard work you've done?

So what are we to do at times like these? How do we cope?

Never ever think of giving up. Winners never quit and quitters never win as the old saying goes. Take all negative words out of your mental dictionary and be aware of what you are saying at all times, focus on the solutions with utmost conviction and patience.

The battle is never lost until you've abandoned your vision.

But what if you're really exhausted physically, mentally, and most of all emotionally? Here are some sources of motivation to prompt and assist you in reaching the peak of accomplishment.

1) The Overwhelming Feeling of Attaining your Desired End

How would you feel after accomplishing your mission? Of course you will feel ecstatic. You might be shedding tears of joy. Let this tremendous feeling sink in and encourage you to persist despite all odds.

As I work on Achievement Radio and the many challenges it presents day in and day out, I used this technique to motivate me. I pull out my goals sheet with my core values and vision statements, I use these to remind me of the difference Achievement Radio makes in the lives of so many people all over the world. I imagine you listening and getting that one idea or new thought that will create a new energy and life that is better than you ever thought possible. I absorbed all these great perceptions into my inner being in order to achieve my ultimate goal. Then, I get busy taking action on my goals!

2) The Reward System . Make it Real and True to Your Goals

How would you feel if you've entered a contest, but there are no prizes for the winners? It's not very encouraging, isn't it?

The same principles apply to your vision. Reward yourself after accomplishing a goal. Set a particular incentive for every objective. Start out with small milestones and goals if this is new to you and work your way up.

Let's say if you've achieved a particular task, you'll treat yourself to your favorite restaurant. When you've finished a bigger task, you'll go on a vacation.

Got the idea?

Just set something gratifying to indulge in after completing a certain undertaking that is directly related to you most important goals.

3) The Powerful Force of Humanity

If you want to succeed, surround yourself with the right kind of people who will support and encourage you all the way.

Be with people who have the same beliefs and aspirations as yours. Positive aura is generated by this fusion of collective energy from people of "like minds."

On the contrary, being with people who oppose your ways of thinking may trigger a negative, yet very powerful, kind of motivation.

Has anyone ever said to you that "You'll never get anywhere?" or "You're wasting your time with what you're doing?"

Didn't it made you furious and determined enough to prove to them how wrong they were? This is what I'm talking about.

When aggravated, you will do anything to make those who are against you swallow their words. But of course, you're primary focus should be on the accomplishment of your goal and not for the purpose of revenge. Never let your emotions toward others alter your main objective.

4) Take Care Of Your Health

As Jim Rohn says, You can't do good if you don't feel good.

Exercise regularly. Fill your brains with enough oxygen to allow you to do your daily tasks with more vigor and energy.

Take regular breaks if time allows. Having the willpower to continue despite all hardships is extremely important, but you should still know your limits.

If you don't take enough rest, you will not be able to think clearly and you will not be able to do your tasks properly. In the process, you will just get more frustrated.

Take sufficient sleep and recharge yourself after a hard day's work. Never, ever ignore your health. I've learned my hard lesson when I sacrificed my health for the sake of success. I've worked very long hours every day and just got minimal sleep. As a result, I became ill.

It's not worth it. Success and money won't matter if you don't have good health to enjoy it.

Fire up your motivation and live life to the fullest! You can do this, keep your focus on what you value most. Let nothing take you off your course. The prize goes to those who bring value to the marketplace and provide more value for the customer's investment. Know deep down inside you can and will walk away with all the success, happiness and prosperity you deserve.

Personal Development with a Purpose

There is an old saying that goes, If you dont know where youre going, any path will take you there. The same is true of personal development. Everyone who starts down the path of personal development wants to grow to evolve into something more than when they began their journey. But figuring out just what path to take when you set ouHowever you do it, dont allow your legacy to remain just an idea! Your legacy will be much more motivatint is a major challenge in and of itself.

As a holistic health practitioner, I'm a big fan of getting right to the heart of the matter. So the first thing I do when I meet with a new client who is ready to begin their quest for personal development is to ask them if they have a legacy.

What exactly does that mean?

Most of us have some sense of the meaning of the term legacy. The common use of this word is backward looking.

Take this question: What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind? In this case, a legacy is something like the achievements were known for when were gone. But this backward looking sense of a legacy is just a small part of what Im after when I talk to clients about their legacy. After all, were not planning for their funeral here!

The reason why I use the word legacy is that it focuses our attention on the whole picture and purpose of our lives. Its fantastic to have career goals, financial goals or relationship goals, but often times we tend to ignore the other aspects of our lives in favor of pursuing those particular achievements. This imbalance inevitably slows down our growth and frequently results in all sorts of health problems.

True personal development requires a holistic approach, one in which youve set out the ideal picture of your life and developed a goal structure that supports that the achievement of that total life goal. Because a legacy just is your complete lifes goal, having one is a crucial step in taking a holistic approach to personal development.

So one fantastic benefit to having a legacy is that it can help you to create and organize goals. It provides you with the ideal towards which all your efforts in life are directed. But having a well thought-out legacy offers so much more. As with any other project, there will always be distractions while you are working on yourself. We have habits to overcome, patterns of procrastination, people who need our time and energy, and so forth. The power of a legacy is that it can provide a very powerful tool to conquer those habits, steer clear of the procrastination, and to meet the needs of those around us with out getting diverted.

In fact, the reason why these diversions can have such a pull on us is because we dont have any particular force guiding us in a direction that we truly want to go. But when your day is built around your legacy, those distractions become impotent. The short term pleasures that procrastinating offers pale in comparison to the potential of your legacy and as long as you stick to your goals, youre always one day closer to realizing that dream.

Of course, the extent to which your legacy will help you to create and organize your goals, and boost your motivation is going to depend upon how much detail you give to the picture of your ideal life. This picture of your legacy often develops over a long period of time, but you can get a decent handle on it by thinking about the following lifestyle components:

1) People what kind of people do you value, feel comfortable with, get excited about spending time with?

2) Passion what is it about life that enlivens you and fills you with energy?

3) Purpose what is it that brings meaning to your life or gives you a sense of fulfillment?

4) Responsibilities what kinds of responsibilities are you comfortable handling in your life, whether they be personal, professional or spiritual?

5) Career what manifestation of your abilities, purpose and passion would best fulfill your career needs?

6) Values your values are your needs and desires, ranging from your most basic physical needs to those that dictate your relationships with your friends, loved ones, co-workers and the environment at large. What are your values?

This list here certainly isnt exhaustive, but its a good start. Not only will it help you to fill out the picture of your career, but the relationships you develop with your self and your loved ones. At the C.H.E.K Institute and in my PPS Success Mastery Program we get into much greater detail as we help our clients find and create their legacies on a daily basis.

Because this picture youre developing is your lifes goal, I recommend, just as with any goal, that you write it down. Or, if you are artistically driven, you can draw it, paint it, sculpt it, or make it physical in whatever way works best for you. However you do it, dont allow your legacy to remain just an idea! Your legacy will be much more motivating when you can look it in the face each and every day.

Knowing that you have a purpose and that you are living your purpose every day is a wonderful thing. It makes me spring out of bed each morning, energized and excited! How many people do you know that look forward to their day, every day, in that way? So take the time to map out your legacy today. Youll be giving yourself a path to personal development with a purpose and thats a path to success!

Success Methods - Rules for Living

Some people just go through life until one day they start wondering, "What happened to my dreams? Those dreams of doing great things and enjoying life to the fullest?" Well, here's probably what happened. They were shoved aside by all the details and problems that come crashing down on all of us. This article shows a method of recapturing your dreams -- doing those special things and enjoying life every day.

Introduction

This article assumes that you want to turn your life around. The following guidelines provide a roadmap for accomplishing this. Young adults, retired people, and everyone in between can use these guidelines. It is natural to feel hesitant about trying to change your life. Therefore, you want to start out slow, make any needed course corrections, and gradually increase your results.

This isn't a normal thing you will be doing. It's a challenge! Fortunately, the following steps will help. They simplify the overall process into a series of simple tasks. Each completed task makes the following task easier to accomplish. You can use all or a portion of this roadmap repeatedly. Eventually, you should be able to achieve your goals in life.

Rules for living

Take charge of your life -- This step consists of making a decision. Are you going to let past attitudes, beliefs, habits, and norms control the rest of your life? If the answer is yes, then you can skip the rest of this article. If the answer is no, go on to the next step.

Focus on your true desires and natural talents -- You may choose to ignore this step. In my opinion, your best chance of making changes and improving your life is to focus on your true desires and natural talents. If you agree, then you need to spend some time discovering those desires and talents. If you don't agree with my opinion, go on to the next step.

Seek out and exploit suitable opportunities -- First, you decide which of your "great" things to tackle first. Then, you look around for suitable opportunities for achieving that great thing. (You also may want to consider your true desires and natural talents). Don't try to "change the world" as your first goal. Try for what is possible. (You can change the world later after you become rich and powerful.)

Learn and follow the rules of the game -- You're probably going to be dealing with other people in achieving your great thing. These other people usually have their own ways of doing things. I refer to these other ways as the "rules of the game." When working with this group, you need to recognize and adapt to their ideas. Thus, it's best to keep your ideas to yourself for now.

Influence people to help you -- You usually need the help of other people when trying to achieve your dreams. Now that you know and follow the rules of the game, you can more easily get people to help you. However, people will be more apt to help you if they can help themselves at the same time. So discover the needs and desires of the people whose help you need. Then think of ways that their help can be mutually beneficial.

Get the tough jobs done -- By this time, you have done a great deal to make things happen. This is the part where you have to dig in and start doing whatever else it takes to get the job done. However, you might save a lot of time, effort, and even cash by finding out how other people have accomplished a particular task. Go to a search engine and type in the keywords for the task you need help with.

Enjoy life every day -- This is the final step, and it may be a surprise to you. In my opinion, you don't need to accomplish great things in order to enjoy life every day. Deciding whether to enjoy life is a choice you make every day. But first, take care of anything that is troubling you. Don't ignore problems. Confront them and then decide how to handle them. Okay, now you can enjoy the rest of the day. It's your choice after all.
