Four Essentials to Maintaining a Healthy Mind

Our Mind is one of our most precious possessions; it's also a possession that is easy to take for granted.

Rarely as human beings do we take stock and hold inventory of our thoughts and perpetual mediations.

But this simple habit can mean the difference between a healthy productive mind, operating at optimum, a servant able to enable the manifestation of our destiny. Or a troubled storm-torn vessel, unable to assist us is in the vicissitudes of life.

In this article, I want to highlight four main elements I feel will be deeply useful to consider when we are endeavoring to corral our minds in the direction that will produce the most desired results.

To further lay emphasis on the opportunity we have before us, I would have you consider the fact that a healthy mind more often than not is fundamental to a healthy body. A healthy mind enables us to think creatively and circumstances will invariably bend to the upbeat attitude of a healthy mind.

A healthy mind will attract to it not only healthy circumstances but also healthy company. It's been said bad company corrupts good habits. I charge we should choose our thoughts as carefully as we choose our friends and vice versa.

Our thoughts will either take us to our desired destination, or plunge us to our dreaded fates. Our thoughts will ennoble us to feats of courage and determination or rob us of vital energy when life requires an extra push.

Let's look together at the four things that can greatly improve our thought life and enable our minds to maintain a healthy virile tone that will infuse all of life with purpose, meaning, worth and peace.

Attitude:

Let's begin with attitude; it's been said that in all of life's happenings, the one thing we can choose is our attitude. A negative attitude is one of the surest ways to eschew destruction through our whole system and destroy productive relations with our fellows. Even if we attract many other negative people to our pity party, the ensuing conversations will be so detrimental, we can be sure no positive thing can result. Likewise, when we choose in the face of a negative appearing circumstance a positive response, the lessons in the circumstance are learnt, the pain quickly passes and we are ennobled, energized, invigorated. And by default, those we come in contact with will reap the benefits.

Self Esteem:

A positive attitude is hard to maintain without a healthy self-esteem. Self-esteem is something so deep it affects our thoughts immensely. First please realize that who you are has tremendous value and worth. You may have been told otherwise all your life, and circumstances may have conspired together to compound this notion. But please stop and look into the mirror, tell yourself you love yourself, tell yourself you forgive yourself, tell yourself that you are the most valuable possession you have at your disposal, and invest in yourself. Allow you're self to change all the destructive self-loathing thoughts; they won't help you or those around you. The moment you accept yourself and see your worth and invest in yourself the world will become a better place.

Meditation:

The next key thought I want to cover is our mediation, our constant mental fixations, what do we spend our time thinking about? Amidst the various pressures and circumstances, life poses, beneath the surface can be a volcano of anxieties, concerns and misgivings. If we don't discipline our minds and choose to maintain focus our lives can become bogged down in a mire of frustration from which we long to escape. It's very important in life to have a vision. Take time to really consider your aims, purpose and reasons for doing what you do. Allow the sometimes disorienting process of change to operate in your life; be prepared to jettison dead weights that are stifling your progress. Establish your destination, and as you press towards it maintain a healthy meditation on your focus. When anxieties arise meditate on your focus. When you go to bed and when you rise, meditate on your focus. And you will find your thoughts steering your mind which in turn will steer your course and you'll make it.

Courage:

And last but by no means least I hope this final thought will add the so needed Icing to the cake; Courage. We addressed anxiety which is a form of fear. Fearful thoughts seek to paralyze our best efforts and sabotage our endeavors. Whether it is a case of self-doubt or the fear of people, apparently insurmountable obstacles or the great unknown. I encourage you to add courage to your arsenal of productive thoughts. Believe you can achieve and you will. Be brave enough to believe you have value despite naysayers. Press beyond the dead past and enter the yet unseen future, confident your going to make it, and life will bend to your faith.

Ultimately choose your attitude, recognize your intrinsic value. Take stock of your daily meditations and focus on your vision and purpose, and rise to life's challenges beginning in your mind, with the courage of believing thoughts and hopeful expectations. And you'll maintain a healthy mind that will serve you throughout your life.

Why Success And Self Esteem Go Hand In Hand

When you observe successful people you see they possess many different traits. One of those is self esteem. Have you ever wondered how it is possible to have self-esteem when everything around you seems to be going bad. In this article we will look at some of the things that can affect your self-esteem and how you can overcome them to become a more successful person.

If you have a job it is easy to become affected negatively by those around you. There are many different types of people in the work environment, including people who complain, people who'll stab you in the back, brown nosers others who will do anything to get ahead, people who will never stop whining, and so on.

If you are not careful you can find yourself becoming just like them. It is important that you understand where your life is headed regardless of any problems you currently have. Having a positive self-esteem is important to you in your efforts to control how you act around negative people.

Another thing that can really affect your self esteem is everything that is going on in the world. Many successful people will tell you they do not watch the news or pay much attention to what is going on outside of their immediate lives.

This is important because the news as it is reported today constantly hypes all of the bad that is going on. Even in a story that is predominantly good the angle will be slanted toward the bad side of it. Reading a newspaper every day, or watching television, can affect your self-image because of all the negative you hear and see.

Another thing that can affect your self esteem is something that is happened to you in the past. It is important that you are able to develop your life and get beyond something that negatively happen to you.  If you continue to do well on things that you can no longer control in your past. You will have a hard time becoming successful in moving your life for work.

Some people will go so far as to take therapy classes, either individually or in groups. Depending on what you are dealing with it is important that you somehow determine this will no longer affect your life and then move forward.

In summary your self esteem does affect how successful you will become. To become a more positive person and view yourself worthy of success, you must control how you deal with negativity and how you think.

10 Ways to Boost Self Esteem

There are many ways to boost self esteem. Self esteem is the positive or negative attitude one feels about themselves. Portraying yourself to be a certain way in your mind will eventually lead to disappointment. Here are ten ways that helps to boost your self esteem.
1. Avoid Negative People
Don't let people's negative perception of you lead you to start believing those negative thoughts of yours. When it comes to self esteem, your opinion is the only one that matters. Avoid people that treat you badly for this will start to make you feel bad towards yourself. Surrounding yourself around negative people will only make you act negatively.
2. Stop Trying to Please Everyone
You can't please everyone so don't try. Trying to please everyone will have you feeling unappreciated if you don't get that same treatment in return. Even though you should treat others how you want to be treated, you won't always get that same treatment in return. Not getting the same treatment in return is not a reflection of you, but them. Everyone's intention won't be the same as yours. Pleasing everyone is stressful. Don't rely on others to determine your self worth because of rejection. Don't expect things to always come out the way you expect it to. Be the unique person that you are. You don't need to seek validation from anyone. Never let the thoughts and feelings of not being able to help others affect you mentally, physically, and emotionally.
3. Occupy Yourself
Don't spend time thinking about something that makes you sad or insecure. Do the things you love to do to occupy your mind. If you are busy doing things you love to do, you're not going to have the time to dwell on negativity.
4. Get Support
It's OK to get the support you need when struggling with low self esteem. You don't have to do it alone. Having a good support system makes believing in yourself a lot easier. Communicating how you really feel shows that you are in tune with negative thoughts and really want the help. Being more open allows you to express all your feelings that you have been holding inside.
5. Forgive
You have to be able to forgive. Holding onto feelings of resentment will keep you in a state of negativity. Once you forgive yourself, you will be able to start to forgive others. Sometimes you have to change your perspective to see other's point of view. The past is the past and you can't change it so don't live with regrets. Having that sense of forgiveness is a relief lifted off your shoulders.
6.,
Never feel like you are ever worthless. Have confidence on both the inside and out. Encourage yourself and treat yourself with kindness. The more you practice treating yourself genuinely, self confidence will rise. No one can see your insecurities and lack of confidence unless you show and tell them. Having strong self esteem results from day to day activities and how you control the bad thoughts. As you focus more on the present instead of what should have, could have and would have, confidence will come easily. Are these thoughts factual? Do you really believe the things you think about yourself? Would you say those things about yourself to someone else? If you wouldn't, then avoid saying them to yourself. Being hard on yourself while having low self esteem will lead to depression.
7. Don't Compare yourself to others
Comparing yourself to others can make you feel as if you're not worth it. Just because you feel someone has more than you, or is doing better than you in any type of way brings you down. There is no such thing as a life that's better than yours. Your insecurities shouldn't be a reflection on any and everything that someone says. Don't be so hard on yourself if things don't go exactly as you want them to. Know your own personal value.
8. Surround yourself around positive
Surround yourself around people who loves, cares, and accepts you just for who you are. It helps when family and friends remind you of things that you do right. If you expect to be treated a certain way, surround yourself around those people. Treat those who treat you negatively how to treat you. People see you differently than you see yourself. Openly accept the sayings of the ones who treat you good. This helps you view yourself in a different way other than how you view yourself. Hearing what people like about you instead of what they don't like about you puts your mind at ease. Treat others with kindness and the kindness will be returned. Being appreciated makes you feel better about yourself.
9. Make a list
Make a list of things you feel proud of. Celebrate your accomplishments. No matter how big or small, it's always a job well done. When you feel your self esteem is not high, look at the list to remind yourself of your success.
10. Turn negative thoughts to positivity
Negative talk can cause you to respond negatively. Emotions run high when there is negative talk around. Instead of feeling overwhelmed from negative thoughts, accept them. Don't allow negative thoughts to influence your behavior. When you feel bad, you will only remember bad times. As you continue to think about things that upset you, it will cause you to act in such a way that's not appropriate. The way you feel has a major impact on thoughts and behavior. Your self esteem will began to improve as you learn to control negative thoughts. If you can't control your thoughts, you will never be able to control your behavior. Learn from past failures and turn it into positives.
Being aware of your thoughts and feelings uncovers the real issue. Just because you see yourself to be a certain way. Thoughts are just thoughts; not necessarily to be factual. Thoughts are normal and may seem factual, but they are just perceptions of the way things should be.

Learning to Recognize Your Ego

What is an ego?

Well, in case you didn't know it, we all have one. The ego is the logical rational part of your mind that allows you to separate yourself from other people. You use it each and every day to weigh up situations, people and circumstances in the process of making rational decisions. When I say "I am Sonia Devine", I am identifying with this part... MY ego.

Sometimes the Ego is associated with an inflated sense of pride or arrogance. As an example, when we talk about a person who is behaving arrogantly, people often say this person has a "huge Ego".

But it's a lot more than that. It has a definite purpose. It is responsible for organizing the different elements of the Self to create some wholeness and integration. All of us require this to function effectively as human beings.

So how does this fit in with your self-esteem? When we focus too much on this part, we begin to become separated from the rest of humanity, and outside forces have more control over us.

For example, does the quality of your self-image rely on any of the following?

How much money you have
What you do for a living
Who you know
How you look
Where you live
What kind of car you drive

If you are defined by what you do for a living, then your self-esteem is at the mercy of this factor. So if you lose your job, where does this leave you? Would you still like and respect yourself if you were broke?

It is within your nature to be conditioned to go after these superficial achievements, but I'll let you in on a secret; they have absolutely nothing to do with who you are! You're so much more than your physical body. Your soul is perfect just as it is, and it will continue to live on after you exit the Earth.

All of us are connected by collective consciousness. When you are able to see past the ego, you learn to cultivate true self-reliance. You accept yourself as the perfect being that you are AT THIS VERY MOMENT- not for who you will be once you have had your hair fixed or gotten in with the right crowd.

When you can get past the ego, you experience true self-love - and this comes from your higher wisdom. Your knowledge, your compassion, your strength are perfect - and these things are permanent.

Self Esteem - A Call To Confidence (Part 4)

This is part 4 of the series "Self Esteem - A Call To Confidence..." If you haven't read the preceding articles, now is your que. We've spoken of self-image, visualizations, and created the base of a new set of habits. By now you are aware of the three factors in the formula: beliefs, habits, and environment. Remember that because we are changing the beliefs you hold of yourself, we can't rely on that factor, but have to play with the other two. We've already juiced the habits. Now, we must look at the environment.

Recall that the achievement of your goal is simply an end result of certain beliefs and habits and that your immediate environment is the container wherein these beliefs and habits are held. Your immediate environment is what supports your beliefs and habits...which ultimately becomes the achievement of your goal. The problem with most who attempt to change is that their environment, the container, is not constructed in a way to be able to support their goal.

It is because of this that people give up. It's not that they're necessarily unwilling but unprepared. Did you ever notice how you may go to a seminar, listen to a motivational speaker, read a good book, etc. and be totally convinced that you not only can, but WILL change? And then you leave and within a few hours, the motivational effect dies? It's because your environment does not support the goal that you have in mind to achieve. It doesn't support what you heard. So your objective is to change your environment to what will serve you.

Your immediate environment is the books/articles that you read, the music you listen to, the shows you watch, the people you spend time with. The last one is probably the most important one, but the other ones play an incredible role as well. Scientists say that we're the average of the 5 people we spend the most time with. Your first job is to take some time and find people that have characteristics like those that you want, and then start surrounding yourself with them. Surround yourself with people that do not give up...people that are achievers. Read stories of people who did not give up. Don't watch shows that have negative things in them. IT WILL REFLECT IN YOUR LIFE!!

Start looking up videos of people who have come from the bottom to the top, because they didn't give up. Do whatever it takes to throw off any negative influence that is coming your way. Don't tell people who don't believe in you or your efforts. It's that simple. Just don't tell them.

You must start taking action in the direction that you intend to end up. If you want to be confident in meeting people, start being the one to approach them. Pretend until you have enough to really do it. Pretend a lot. It won't happen on its own.

Remember this: You can't drive into your future by looking in your rear-view mirror. You'll crash no matter how smart you are. And one more thing: Once you have mastered the ability to overturn you OWN negative influence on yourself, you have then mastered success...and any achievement. This means, when you are feeling down, in THAT moment, jerk your self out of it by reflecting on a positive influence by reflecting on your goal.

Self Esteem - A Call To Confidence (Part Three)

If you have not "Self Esteem - A Call To Confidence (Part 1)..." and part 2, it'd be a great idea to check that out. In the preceding articles, we covered self-image and visualizations. In this article, we'll put it into a system.

We mentioned how our habits, beliefs, and immediate environment work together, and how if you change any one of the three factors, the formula still stays the same, meaning the other two factors will adjust accordingly. Because we're working to change the self-image, the beliefs we hold of ourselves, we can't depend on the "beliefs" factor. So we work with the habits and environment.

Proper physical exercise gives you great health, and proper mental exercise gives you great wealth...great achievement.

You're dealing with the most important person in your life: YOU. You're going to need to start treating yourself the same way you treat the person you most love, and we'll develop a system for it. How would you treat this person? You'd probably spend time alone with them. You'd probably do things for them. You'd make them smile, and buy things for them and make them happy. That's what you're gonna need to do for yourself.

Here are the rules:
1. You come before anything else on your schedule. You'll make time. If you don't, you'll fail.
1. You meet with yourself every morning before your day starts, for a minimum of 15 minutes.
1. You commit to this for 30 days minimum.(The moment you commit, you won. Look up the meaning of commit.)If you fail at any point, you must restart.

Here is the habit readjustment. Take a piece of paper, and write "I WON" on it. Staple that paper on top of your decription(your vision). Every morning before you get out of bed, think of your goal...you new self-image. Don't compare it to what you think you are, just visualize for a minute or two. Get up and pick up the paper with your vision on it. Look at the top page, and read out loud, "I WON." Pretend like you won. Put that smirk on your face, that half-smile or whatever. Now go somewhere nobody can hear you, and where you can walk/jog alone. Emotion is well activated with motion, so you're going to need to start moving. Right before you start, read your vision out loud. Be sure it is written in the present tense, like, "I am so confident. I am very fit..." rather than, "I will be..."

Now it's time to start moving. It's fine to listen to music if you prefer. You must get in a thankful state and you can do this by just saying "Thank You" over and over again. "Thank You...for my opposition, thank you for my health, thank you for my..." As you are moving, say very powerfully, "I WON! I WON! I WON!" and keep repeating it to the beat of whatever form of exercise you are doing. Start adding in your different incantations, like, "I am so confident with...." and "I easily achieve all of my goals" or whatever you determine to have. Alternate your "Thank You"'s in there. Wait, it gets worse.

It is not enough to just say it for the sake of saying it. You MUST CHANGE YOUR PHYSIOLOGY! You gotta have the expressions...the "I'm taking down the world" look. But watch what it does to how you feel! It's awesome and you will begin to look forward to this because of how empowered you feel. Scientifically, your brain is causing your whole body to respond. I do this every day. In my car. On a trail where people rarely go. In fact, I'm as idiot as they get...I will be shouting at myself! But I also accomplished and continue to accomplish incredible things...by changing my beliefs. I'll be yelling "THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!! BRING IT ON! BRING ME YOUR BEST GAME!! DO I LOOK LIKE SOMEONE THAT BACKS DOWN?? JOKES!" And then there are days where all I say is, "Thank You, Thank You" the whole time, all the while my goal is playing through my head.

This must be done before you start your day. It will be working in you all day. You'll find yourself repeating "Thank You" regularly.

At night, look at your vision right before bed, and read it out loud, starting and finishing with, "I won" and immediately imagining it. These are a few habits that you will have to upkeep with all faith. You will start noticing changes very quickly, but do not stop before at least 30 days, of unfailing practice, have passed.

In the next article, we'll cover information on your immediate environment.

The last part will come soon.

Self Esteem - A Call To Confidence (Part Two)

If you haven't read "Self Esteem - A Call To Confidence (Part 1)..." this is your signal.

You have your description on paper now. Creating it into a mental image is done by reflecting on the description and visualizing yourself doing all of that. Visualizing is watching a movie play through your head, where you are doing everything that you described. However, visualizing is only effective if you mix emotion in it. The visualization takes place in your conscious mind, precisely the faculty of the imagination. The emotions are part of your subconscious mind, and this is where we are trying to transfer the image to.

We are going to make this image a part of your belief system, and beliefs are neural networks on the subconscious mind. These neural networks are what command our bodies to do what they do. Emotions are particularly strong parts of these networks, and when they are activated, think of them as becoming sticky. Whatever you are holding in your conscious mind at the time gets stuck to these "emotions" and bypasses some of the filters that normally stop things from coming to your subconscious mind. This is why things that you were seeing or experiencing during an emotional time, are deeply ingrained in your subconscious mind. So if you activate these emotions, especially very strong ones, and you're visualizing what you intend to be at the same time, it will be much more readily accepted by your subconscious mind.

This image is your goal. The achievement of a goal is a result of certain beliefs and habits. The environment is what supports beliefs and habits. Immediate environment, that is. Like the people you spend time with, the books you read, shows you watch, etc. The three work very tightly together: environment, beliefs, and habits. If anyone of them is adjusted, the other two automatically adjust accordingly.

However, we are trying to create new beliefs, so we can't rely on that part. We must work with the habits and environment. I will cover that in the next article: "Self Esteem - A Call To Confidence (Part 3)..."

In the meantime, look at your goal, and visualize for at least ten minutes today, and again right before you go to sleep. That will begin to prepare you for the system.

Self Esteem - A Call To Confidence (Part one)

You got it. Let me tell you how. And you're hearing it right from the horse's mouth. I was at the bottom of this can. Now I'm close to what I determine the top to be. In my eyes, that would be absolute confidence, success, and humility.

We all know what "lack of confidence" is, so I'm not going to give you my story. I'll just give you the key and show you where to use it.

We are a product of our self-image. In other words, we are what we are because of what we believe ourselves to be. The image we hold of ourselves gets programmed into our subconscious mind and then our brain takes it as an instruction to find or make that. The problem is that most of us are unaware that this is how it works so we ruin it for others and don't correct it in ourselves. Because we don't know that it works this way, particularly when we're kids, we let others create this image of what we are. The system still works the same way, in that the image held gets imprinted onto the subconscious mind.

So the formula is very simple. Drinking it is the difficult part. Kinda. The key is to create the image you want of yourself and hold it in your thoughts. Focus on it...feel it.

You must get precise...no exceptions. Get a piece of paper and start writing. There is a psychological reason for this. Figure out everything of how you want to be. How you handle certain situations, how you talk to people, what/who you look like when you talk/walk, how you eat and exercise, etc. Figure out also how you want people to treat you. Determine what your occupation is or what kind of company or car you own. This should take you no less than 30 minutes to do initially. If it does, you're not being precise enough and you might as well hang it up.

You will add to this image over the next few days things as they come to your mind...as you see different people/things. After you write the initial description, proceed to "Self Esteem - A Call To Confidence (Part 2)" for the next instructions.

In this article, I want to highlight four main elements I feel will be deeply useful to consider when we are endeavouring to corral our minds in the direction that will produce the most desired results.

Our thoughts will either take us to our desired destination or plunge us to our dreaded fates.

Likewise, when we choose in the face of a negative appearing circumstance a positive response, the lessons in the circumstance are learnt, the pain quickly passes and we are ennobled, energised, invigorated. And by default, those we come in contact with will reap the benefits.

Self Esteem:

A positive attitude is hard to maintain without a healthy self-esteem. Self-esteem is something so deep it affects our thoughts immensely. First please realise that who you have tremendous value and worth. You may have been told otherwise all your life, and circumstances may have conspired together to compound this notion. But please stop and look into the mirror, tell yourself you love yourself, tell yourself you forgive yourself, tell yourself that you are the most valuable possession you have at your disposal, and invest in yourself. Allow your self to change all the destructive self-loathing thoughts; they won't help you or those around you.

It's very important in life to have vision.

Fearful thoughts seek to paralyse our best efforts and sabotage our endeavours. Whether it is a case of self-doubt or the fear of people, apparently insurmountable obstacles or the great unknown. I encourage you to add courage to your arsenal of productive thoughts. Believe you can achieve and you will. Be brave enough to believe you have value despite naysayers. Press beyond the dead past and enter the yet unseen future, confidence you're going to make it, and life will bend to your faith.

Ultimately choose your attitude, recognise your intrinsic value. Take stock of your daily meditations and focus on your vision and purpose, and rise to life's challenges beginning in your mind, with the courage of believing thoughts and hopeful expectations. And you'll maintain a healthy mind that will serve you throughout your life.
